Hurricane Ike On the Road Update 3

We have had quite a few hours of sleep and are feeling MUCH better physically than we were at this point chasing Gustav. We got up early, grabbed some breakfast at Whataburger and headed out. After much debate, we decided to give up our initial area to ride out the hurricane, at the parking garage at NASA, southeast of Houston, and decided we could ride it out in one of the many parking garages at the hospital on Galveston Island. We shall be in for one heck of a ride, and are apprehensive at this point about when we may be able to get off the island. We have supplies for at least a week however.

However once there, we lucked in to a place to stay at a high rise condo called Emerald by the Sea. While scouting out their parking garage, we ran in to the Realtor for the building who invited us to come back and ride it out on their 6th floor lobby! This building was built to withstand a CAT5 hurricane. So we are good for shelter.

Now to spend the day running around the island documenting things and shooting ENG footage.

Sorry about the audio on me at first, it gets corrected a few seconds later.

Hurricane Ike On the Road Update 2

After dark now and about halfway between Austin and Houston. We have secured a room at Motel 6 in southwest Houston. As we get closer and see the traffic leaving the area getting heavier and heavier, the graveness of the situation is setting in on us, and we reflect those feelings in this vlog update.

Hurricane Ike On the Road Update 1

We’ve have been on the road across Texas now since late morning and are now east of Austin, TX.  Evacuation traffic leaving southeast Texas is certainly on the increase as we expected.  Things will only get worse from here.

Hurricane Ike Chase

Well here we are, on the road headed for Hurricane Ike.  We have a room tonight in Victoria, TX so we are already going to be a lot more rested than we were for the Gustav trip.  Plan is to get out tomorrow and do some ENG video work and get in position for what right now looks to be a pre-dawn landfall. Hopefully that will slow up a few hours and bring the worst in during daylight.

Evacuations area already underway on the coast so we expect to see the usual mass exodus heading northward the closer we get.

More updates to come.  We will also be doing the video blogs again this time, and you can also track us and watch the LIVE ChaseCam over on SevereStudios.com. We’ll have the camera up and running probably tomorrow.
