We have survived the hurricane and finally made it back to the hotel in Beaumont, completely and utterly spent! We did manage to recover most of the gear we lost when the windows blew out.
We are in the eye of the hurricane. An over 100 mph gust came along and blew out two of our windows and we took shelter on the lee side of a nearby building. When the windows blew out, some of our stuff in the back went with it. We’ll have to see if we can recover it later.
We have decided most of the storm surge will not affect areas further to the south, so we have gonesouth a few more miles. Now getting into some of the stronger rain bands.
Still staged in Broussard, LA. Now that it’s daylight, we are making our final preparations to intercept the eye of the hurricane. Winds are just now starting to pick up a little, and we have had a couple of light showers. We have to get our camera gear protected, rainsuits at the ready, all that sort of stuff. Only a few hours now.
Staged at Broussard, LA. We lucked out and found one last gas stop and visited with the local law enforcement there stopping to fuel up their vehicles.
