I usually try to stay away from negative rants on here, but I just had such a horrible dinner experience I feel the need, so here goes…

We just went to dine in at our local Pizza Hut restaurant.  We went a little after the normal dinner rush, about 9 pm, which is not late on a Friday, they are open til 11 or 12 I think.

When we got there there were two other tables and us, just 4 of us.  I need to preface this saying that I am not prejudice, but I got to experience the negative side of prejudice tonight.

We were the only Caucasian people in the place.  Every employee was Hispanic, and the two tables that were there when we got there were Hispanic.  This in itself is not unusual in west Texas really, but it’s how things went while there that we really didn’t appreciate.  I have no problem with Hispanics in general, so don’t blast me in the comments.  In fact, my favorite restaurants are traditional Mexican food and Tex-Mex places!

It took over 10 minutes for a waitress to come to our table. 10 minutes.  With only 3 tables of people there.  After we finally got our food ordered, she brought our drinks, in paper cups, for a dine in. WTF?  Is this a new Pizza Hut thing or what? You used to get these nice big red drink tumblers.

The cups we got might have been 22 oz, take out style cups.  I ordered tea, she plops it down in front of me, with about 10 packets of sweet and low.  I use only sugar, I never asked for sweet and low, but I guess she thought I needed it looking at my belly (I am no stranger to good food).  I had to actually ASK for some sugar.  I never did get a spoon to stir it with, I had to use my knife to stir it.  During the course of the dinner, I had to ask for a refill each time, and the last one I finally had to get up and go get myself.

The were conveniently “out of” just about everything we wanted to order, including all styles of pizza crust except thin and crispy.  The waitress only came to our table to bring the menus, to order, the one time I was able to get her attention for some more tea, and when the food was delivered.  We even had to go up front to get our check when we were done.

I mentioned the Hispanic part at the beginning of this and the fact we were the only white people in the place.  While we were there, two smaller tables and one large table of all Hispanics came in.  The same waitress was ALL OVER those tables repeatedly, yet ignored us.  It was becoming clear she didn’t care to have to wait on white people.

Enjoy the $45 sale tonight Pizza Hut, it’s the last time I will ever set foot in one.  I worked in management at several Pizza Hut restaurants back in my early working days, and the standards we were held to back then were light years of what I experienced tonight.  I am tempted to send this off to the area manager, but I really don’t care to visit another Pizza Hut again.

  1. heh…you actually paid the ticket? I’d have just walked out. But then, that’s just me. ;-) Reverse discrimination is rampant in this country, but you’ll never hear much if anything at all about it.

What’s funny is that the argument used by shrieking, hysterical liberals is that they are a minority. Well, when WE are a minority, will we be afforded the same rights as they are now? Can we shout, scream and sue discrimination at the drop of a hat? Will we get special privilege and treatment?

One thing IS certain though….if you would have been hispanic in an all-white pizza place and treated that way, lawsuits would be filed, protest marches organized, manager fired, etc.

The double standards and hypocrisy in this country is off the scale. I’m a proud white Texan!! (future slogan when we are officially a minority)

I would have called the manager on this one and told them what happened and then ask for there names that were waiteing on you. then call the main office where ever it is. I would rake them over .yes we the white people have rights too. so you hispanics get a clue.

I ran into this same situation at a truck stop when I drove truck over the road. It was in Arkansas. After returning my meal back to the kitchen 3 times to have it 1) re-cooked 2) have brown gravy (which I ordered the first time, but never got), and 3) have it re-warmed when it came back from the kitchen cold. The locals that were in the resturaunt were served promptly — and as far as I could tell — the proper food. I got up and walked out. The manager threatened to call the cops on me for failure to pay for the meal that I didn’t eat. Her explanation was that I had ordered it… it didn’t matter that I hadn’t eaten it. I explained to her in no uncertain terms that she could call the cops if she wanted, but it would be a cold day in hell before I payed the bill and that it would also be a cold day in hell before I ever came back into that truck stop for ANYTHING! In 6 years of driving after that I never did so much as even pull into that parkinglot to sleep… much less eat anything at that poor excuse for a resturaunt.

By the way, it was re-cooked because it was raw after I ordered it medium well. This was a hamburger steak with brown gravy. Not too terribly difficult a meal to get right.

Bad service is bad service, yours was a truckload of awful. Complain about that all day. No wrongs there.

Complaining about anything else; throws fuel on a fire no one wants burning in the first place. Chose your battles wisely, it could blow up in your face.

  6. Jim C says:

when that bad service is because of race… it’s not just bad service.

“Complaining about anything else; throws fuel on a fire no one wants burning in the first place. Chose your battles wisely, it could blow up in your face.”

Not sure what that’s about, there are no battles here, but ok. The bottom line was, regardless of what race anyone was in the place, we were definitely made to feel like we weren’t welcome there. What other factor was there?

I would sure as hell take that higher up in the chain. I understand that workers are hard to come by, and I have noticed a large number of new/summer employees who don’t know their job, but this was just wrong. There is a difference between new employee and down right rude and incompetent. Forty-five dollars, although only half a tank of gas, it a lot of money. I would not let this just be swept under the carpet like so many other times. The standard these days is going down the shitter.

  9. Dewdrop says:

Definitely take it higher up the chain. They should be made aware of what is going on in their restaurants. At least give them the benefit of the doubt that they will make an effort to save their name…

  10. Jim C says:

    David,

Dewdrop and Graham are right. Take it up the chain of command. You may not ever walk into a Pizza Hut ever again… heck, I don’t blame you for feeling that way. I wouldn’t go back either. But, they should know exactly what kind of service (crappy) that resturant is providing.

If they offer you a free meal… turn it down, but tell them you’ll take a refund on the $45 you spent for service you didn’t recieve…

    Hmm …

“What’s funny is that the argument used by shrieking, hysterical liberals is
    that they are a minority.”

Well, thanks for making blanket statements about people like _me_
(a liberal) even though I have never said or thought anything resembling
    that in my life.

Guess there’s all kinds of prejudice, misunderstanding and over-generalized
b.s. to go around, ain’t there?

  12. You gotta do something Jim, don’t just vent on here. I hate bad service and this situation is unacceptable. I would write a nice long letter to corporate and send a CC to the manager at that location. This would be the lightest approach, but sure would make me feel better.

Awesome blog by the way, I love stopping by here.

I would have called the manager or contact someone higher up.
